"To work with trauma is to believe that there can be healing and connection, and that experiencing trauma does not predetermine a life of anguish and loss"

About me

My interest in counselling began after I had a traumatic birthing experience in the mid-90s and subsequently suffered PTSD and post-natal depression. I received counselling from an amazing therapist, who showed me that there could be a way forward from those events.

In the early 2000's I started my journey into training as a counsellor, but life has a way of zigging when we plan to zag, and I continued to work in administration before finding my way back into qualifying as a therapist.

Along the way, I got married, divorced, and explored my relationship with depression, panic attacks, co-dependence, parental abandonment, and familial Alzheimer's and neurodivergence (Autism, Dyspraxia, Hypermobility, ADHD).

I leaned into the help of therapy to face the generational and complex traumas of my childhood, and the long-term repercussions of various medical events, including breast cancer and spinal surgery.

I understand what it is like to have an overwhelmed and traumatised mind - to be stuck and to not know which way to turn next.

I believe in hope and that there is always a way forward, even when it does not seem like that in the moment!

My style of working

As a humanistic and integrative therapist, I take into account your circumstances and you as an individual, and integrate different therapeutic approaches as needed.  These include aspects of Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Person Centred Therapy, as well as the more practical and solution focused approach of Human Givens.

I will be respectful of you and your preferences, and I will be mindful of your needs every step of the way I am authentically me and hope that you are able to be authentically you during our work together.

I always keep the focus on you during sessions and the time we spend together is about you and your needs.  Whether that is to talk and unburden yourself, to challenge yourself and work towards a goal, or something entirely different, the choice is always yours.

Our work will be collaborative and I will be with you whilst you navigate your journey to emotional and mental wellbeing.

I am approachable and friendly, whilst also pragmatic and  straight-talking when necessary. I will always be honest with you, and I have strong personal and professional boundaries.

With over five years' experience, I work online or by telephone with adults (18+) on a one-to-one basis.

"I am personal choice and neuro affirming, and welcome you as you are.
I work from a multicultural perspective, with the awareness and respect that everyone is a unique individual, and that we hold differing values and world views."
